Jim has an extensive range of legal experience in business, tax, real estate, estate planning and corporate matters. Among the clients he represents are small family-held businesses (including LLC’s, Corporations and limited partnerships), national and international corporations and nonprofit organizations.  Jim graduated from Notre Dame Law School and Boston College (a major in Accounting) before moving to Oregon. 

Representative legal matters Jim regularly handles include:

  • Real estate sales, acquisitions, financing, and investment transactions

  • Business contracts, mergers, acquisitions, and dispositions

  • Preparation of wills, trusts and business succession planning 

  • Nonprofit organization formation, mergers, and dissolutions

Jim’s experience also includes counseling nonprofits on their governance and operational issues. He has served as an officer and director on many civic, and nonprofit organization committees, task forces, and boards of directors, including the Rotary Club of Portland and the Portland Rotary Charitable Trust.  Over his entire career, Jim has provided pro bono legal services to many non-profit organizations serving our community, including Phame Academy and Family of Friends Mentoring.  In addition, he coached Special Olympics Softball for many years for his daughter’s team. 

For his leisure time pursuits, Jim enjoys golf, reading, theater and traveling with his wife, Debra.  He is well known for playing croquet and has continued his long distance running for relaxation and good health.  He also enjoys caring for the family rescue feline, Jolie.
